Going to high school (in the United States) was a very different experience for me, since I am Brazilian and moved here on my freshman high school year. The cultural shock was revealed in every aspect of my daily life, especially traveling to school everyday on the school bus. The bus is a metaphor for this journey, this exploration. Imagine entering in an unknown vehicle with a bunch of other people, driving to an unknown destination. That is what it felt like everyday, having to be there with these strange but somehow strangely familiar people. I was eager to escape this reality yet I wanted to stay to know where this bus was going to take me. The idea of repetition is very interesting to me, as I was being forced to repeat my actions daily almost like a little robot. And yet, each day is unique. There is a heavy melancholy mixed with a buoyant joy of being alive and running, running maybe to catch the bus.
