Collective Struggle
One of the four spaces of the ARENA gallery.
The ARENA gallery was founded by students from the Yonkers International Baccalaureate High School as a forum where a group of intense people can engage in a continuous artistic dialogue between artists, students, parents, educators and whomever else might show interest in such a cause. It is a space that radiates many possibilities and will serve as an arena for this forum, in which people can speak, be heard, and speak again. Rather than simply attaching an artistic slant to the school, the gallery seeks to poke a hole in the amorphous bubble of the school environment and expose students to the real world, and have the students engage with the world without intermediaries. The goal is to open up a direct channel for voices that must be heard because they have something important to contribute.

“Everything started with the flaming desire of not being apathetic and idle. We do not want to conform ourselves to the neutral lifestyle of this world, which drives the passive, stagnant masses into a self-destructive and perverse system. We call ourselves intense people, because we see limitless potential in the resources we have access to, and we will do something with them. The ‘something’ in itself is not our concern; the verb is the essence. Nouns are temporary; verbs are eternal.”
